Rivertown Background Information

Rivertown is a fictional community located "somewhere in Michigan near the Ohio border." Its people are friendly, made up of a pretty small city midwestern mix. Special demographics for the community include many students living in rental units near Reliance College, wealthy "old-money" families living along Bitterroot Lake, formerly transient Hispanic workers now permanently residing at Elly's Mobile Home Park, a large retiree population living in the neighborhood east of the Old Biltmore Farm, and middle income families living elsewhere, primarily on the west side of the city.

Reliance College has established itself with a strong Computer Science program, and has a surprising amount of high-tech facilities at its small campus, located about 6 blocks from the city center.

Rivertown has no regular public transportation system, but has small buses available on-call for residents. As a result, many people drive into the downtown, where traffic is congested on the narrow streets and parking is minimal.

Sketches and plans are available to show the older downtown area, the area immediately surrounding, and the entire city. Other information is available on web pages within this simulation.
