Ann Arbor, Michigan
Now known as Wolverine Square, the 1928 Ypsi-Ann Building stands as an iconic early high-rise in downtown Ann Arbor. Built in a freely interpreted Art Deco style, it exhibits tapestry brick and terra cotta ornamentation in its six stories above ground level storefronts wrapping the corner.
New owners have fully restored the exterior masonry, upgraded the office entry, and replaced the storefront glazing. I designed the new storefronts to satisfy local historic district commission requirements, by retaining the historic horizontal hierarchy of transoms, display windows and grade-level kick plates.
