| Historic district study committeeIn this exercise, you will act as a member of a historic district Study Committee. Before a historic district can be established, the City Council must establish such a Study Committee to: 1) review the buildings in the proposed area and 2) recommend district boundaries. The first activity of the Study Committee is to review buildings that potentially could be located in a historic district. It evaluates each building's potential historic significance, both individually and as contributing to a district. The committee's work concludes with a report submitted to City Council recommending whether or not a historic district is justified and, if so, the reasons for that determination. To help determine an appropriate recommendation, review descriptions of Rivertown's downtown buildings and note those that have historic significance. |
