Throughout 2024, Ann Arbor’s Bicentennial is being observed with activities celebrating the city’s 200-year history since being founded by John Allen and Elisha Ramsey in 1824. One Bicentennial activity offered to the public is a series of online tours to celebrate the community’s history. Fifteen ”SmartTours” have been designed for people to use with their smartphone. Both residents and visitors can discover stories about Ann Arbor’s distinctive landmarks, historic neighborhoods, iconic commercial areas, engaging Huron River hikes, plus an intriguing scavenger tour.

You are encouraged to spend the Bicentennial year visiting each site. Tours are noted as most appropriate for walking, biking, and/or driving.  If during the Bicentennial year you visit, read the narrative, and check off every site, you may request a personalized Bicentennial Certificate of Completion from the city. (Note: On the Home page you can find and print the Tours Checklist, where you can check off each of your visits.)

Shown below are a web site URL or a scan to take you to the SmartTours web site. We hope you will share information on the SmartTours and encourage others to participate in this Bicentennial experience, especially as the weather warms.
