Peace Corps and VISTA:

Norm worked as a Peace Corps Volunteer in a Rural Development program in Sierra Leone, West Africa, from 1964 to 1966. His involvement continued by serving as a Peace Corps trainer one summer.

After getting married, together Norm and Ilene were VISTA Volunteers in 1970 and served for two years in Baltimore as staff with the Neighborhood Design Centers, an advocacy center for architects and planners who volunteered their services to neighborhood groups. Norm and Ilene also served as recruiters for the Peace Corps and VISTA on college campuses across the Midwest.
