Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE)

The Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE) was established in 1964 by the U.S. Small Business Administration. Its purpose is to provide the expertise of retired business people to owners of startup and small businesses. Topics of counseling may include assistance is dealing with accounting, budgeting, business plans, insurance, loans, marketing, taxes and setting up an appropriate business organization. Most SCORE volunteers have a wealth of expertise and experience to share, and their mentoring can sometimes make the difference in the success of a new retail business.

SCORE has over 400 chapters across the country with more than 12,000 volunteer counselors. The operation is strictly volunteer, with the Small Business Administration providing local centers with stamps and forms.
