The following web pages present a scenario on decision-making for a new parking lot in a typical small town. It illustrates steps necessary in making this decision.

Inventory of existing parking spaces

Before decisions are made on parking needs, an inventory should be completed of existing parking availability. Currently virtually all public parking spaces in the downtown are on-street; some are angled, some parallel. Small off-street lots are all private.

The Addendum to the Rivertown Zoning Ordinance gives requirements for parking for various land uses. These requirements should be compared against the number of spaces currently available to determine the number of additional spaces needed.
